About the project

The research project "Gender and Work" at the Department of history, Uppsala university, is financed by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation through a Wallenberg Scholar grant (2010 to 2014). Project leader is Professor Maria Ågren. The aim of the project is to provide a clearer picture of what men and women actually did to support themselves in early modern Sweden (approximately 1550 to 1800) and to analyze short- and long term consequences of survival strategies in general and of the gender division of labour in particular. The project brings together around ten Swedish historians and economic historians, invites guest researchers, and entertains close contacts with groups working on similar questions in other parts of Europe.

Scientific advisory board: professor Christina Florin, professor Jan Lindegren, docent Leif Runefelt, docent Karin Sennefelt, professor Johan Söderberg, professor Rolf Torstendahl, professor Kirsi Vainio-Korhonen, professor Eva Österberg
